Aw, glad to hear that your cats are still with you at the moment Samantha! How old are they again? And yeah, I'd say you have a girl mixed in there somewhere, haha. Glad to hear the baby is doing fine after that flying though!

Glad to hear the baby is doing fine after that flying though! They're 17 and a half! One has a tumour (the same one a years ago, got it removed and it's back.. He doesn't do great with anaesthetic so don't think I would put him through that again, especially as it will definitely grow back again anyway, so once it gets too bad I'm afraid it's time ) The other I had when she was 8 and she was morbidly obese which caused joint problems, which then meant she wouldn't move much so she just got massive. So she's done well to get this far really, and I think she's just been happy she's been loved. She was in a rescue centre for ages.. So yeah she was never the healthiest bless her. I know cats can live til 20s, but under the circumstances I don't think I will get that out of mine.

We're down to just the 3 dogs now, as the boyfriend's daughter decided to move out this week (on bad terms) and took her cat with her.

We lost our female Irish setter last December, while we were on vacation, visiting my family for the holidays, so that was pretty rough. So I definitely can relate to what you're going through, at least a little bit! I'm looking forward to hearing about the new additions! I'm sure they have helped to keep your spirits up, in the meantime. (So nice to see you here again also, missed ya!!)

I now have A chinchilla, and 2 cats. My Nan died in November so I also have her hamster and fish.
One of my cats has a brain condition so he’s a bit wobbly, and the other I homed because she had a broken leg that had been left broken for more than 3 months - unfortunately it needed removing as it was so badly damaged and fused as it was. She handles it well though.

We have a dog named Sierra given to me by a customer at the store I worked at in 2006. Even the vet doesn't know what she is for sure, but they think either Pomeranian and Papillon or Pomeranian and Chihuahua.
She'll be 14 this January but still acts like a puppy when she's feeling really good. Still likes to play. Don't know what we'll do after her, hard to imagine her not being here. So, we just enjoy all the time we have with her. She's definitely a part of the family.

Aww, yeah, it is hard when they get older, especially since they become such big parts of the family. Our male Irish setter is about 15 years old right now and the hubby thinks he won't make it through the year. He's definitely a grumpy old man most days and doesn't like that his bones aren't as strong as they used to be. Then our great dane will be 8 years old this October which is at the high end of his breed's lifespan. I hate thinking about not having him around, as I've grown incredibly attached to him since we've had him from 11 weeks old and I took care of him every day (considering that I primarily worked from home almost his entire life so far).

It really is awful watching them grow old. I mean it’s obviously good they get to that age but it’s a constant worry. I remember with my cats every time I woke up or got home I would check they were breathing. Tess got deaf in her old age so she didn’t move when you came in so it was always is she, isn’t she? It was horrible, and I know what you mean about when they’re gone. I completely lost myself when I had my two cats put to sleep. I’d had one since childhood! I had no reason to get up and no purpose in life. I go to work to earn money to feed the cat’s etc. So I did end up in a very dark place. I’ve since managed to open my heart to more kitty’s. Unintentionally, I didn’t want more but they both needed help - and that gave me purpose again. It’s not the same and they’ll never replace the old ones though.
Another pet update from me, unfortunately over the weekend my hamster died. It was a link to my Nan who I was extremely close to, felt like I was still doing something for her by looking after him. So that was sad

I remember with my cats every time I woke up or got home I would check they were breathing. Tess got deaf in her old age so she didn’t move when you came in so it was always is she, isn’t she? That is exactly what we're going through with him (Irish setter). I am constantly looking at his chest when he's laying down and making sure that it's moving the way it should be. We think he's going a little deaf also, or maybe just a little of dementia, because he'll be outside, standing in the middle of our backyard, just staring at the fence while I call his name and he won't make any acknowledgement that he heard me until I actually walk outside with him. But so far, he's okay, he has his good days and his bad days, as I suppose we all do. Haha. I'm so sorry to hear about your hamster.

Sad to say my 9-year-old cat, Ruby, passed away a few months ago. Hoping I'll be able to adopt a new cat soon.

Aw, so sorry to hear that Talira Greycrest, I can relate as well. We had to put down our Irish setter about 3 weeks ago, after confirming that he'd developed a cancerous mass. It's been very difficult these past few weeks without him.
