Pretend that: (1) You believe in soulmates or "The One" (that ain't Neo) for each person. (2) You believe in reincarnation. (3) You're as straight as straight can come. (4) You take the subsequent question really seriously Scenario: You meet the person you're 100% sure is your soulmate. Then this person dies. After years of Heathcliff-y brooding, you find your soulmate again, reincarnated. Only the reincarnate is of the same sex. Will you turn gay for this person?

wow.. Jo, thats a really hard question to consider. especially since I really don't believe in reincarnation to begin with. ummmm... I don't think I would turn gay because there are always other "fish in the sea," as people say. I don't think I could bring myself to turn gay because the idea just disgusts me.

hm. tnx for your responses, folks. since not all of the "assumed" pre-conditions apply, it's understood that there won't really be a struggle with the answers ^_^
i spoke with a buddhist once, and he was quite practical about the reincarnation bit. here's the conversational fragment:
buddhistLouis: yes, we believe in reincarnation and as a result, yes, we do not harm any animals or any life-forms.
delinquentcatholicJo: but following that logic, shouldn't plants be included? after all, they may be stationary, but they are classified as "living". shouldn't they be part of the whole cosmic life cycle (or recycle) thing?
buddhistLouis (*laughing*): we have to eat.

Now Id have to say that if I believe all of those 4 things you said, which I dont, then yes, I would turn gay for my true love! But I dont belive in those things, so it would never happen. But If I did belive them, then I myself would be a different person so i could turn gay easier then!

I would probably turn gay. Because if the person was the love of my life before their death, I would certainly want to be with that person again. But I should also mention that I am bisexual, so I guess it wouldn't be to big of a switch for me.

I would have to say that I wouldn't. If they are truly my soul mate then they can wait until one of us dies and comes back as a girl....

I believe the above four, but I don't think I'd go gay just to be with that person again. Wanted her as a woman, not a guy...LoL

Well that's a tough one. If I would believe in all 4 of those things I would have to say I could love the person again, because of all the wonderful times you would spend with them and wonderful memories. So there is no way you couldn't love them. But the way I am taking you mean "turn gay", which I think you mean be able to be intimat, is the part I could not do. I don't agree with the homosexual lifestyle but I don't care if people live it. As long as it is not pushed down my throat I don't care what people do. So if that is the way you mean it I'd have to say no.

No. If they're of the same sex, that means I am fated to a platonic affection for them.

blech... The terms "straight" and "gay" are just needlessly categorizing people. I HATE BEING CATEGORIZED!
It's not what sex they are that matter, it's WHO they are.
So yes, I would, most definately if they were my soulmate then it shouldn't matter what they look like, but who they are on the inside. Which, in this situation, is my soulmate no matter what their organs are.
