Saturday had the chance to be a great day because I had just gotten paid. But it turned out to really bring me down.
First off: I turned my rent check in on Wednesday but knew I didn't have the funds to cover it until I got paid Thursday night.
I had to pay the rent Wednesday or I'd face late charges.
The apartment manager assured me that the rent check wouldn't pass through the bank until Friday or Saturday, so I have nothing to worry about. My direct deposit would be there in time to cover it.
Well I checked my bank account yesterday and BOOM I had overdraft charges because the damn check went through the bank Thursday and wiped my account out.
I called the bank and talked to my landlord and they refused to get rid of the overage charges.
So be careful, freaking checks go through the bank the day after now I guess. I don't know if they ran it through faster cuz they knew I didn't have the funds or what.

Then later that night I was just trying to relax cooking some steaks and pork chops on the grill on my balcony. Trying to get my mind off what the bank had done.
I've done this several times and never had any problems, I mean I know what I'm doing I've barbequed for years.
Well I had the coals heating up and the meat was already seasoned ready to go. Then I got a knock on my door from this wanna-be policeman who lives in the apartment complex telling me if I didn't put the fire out I'd get a $1,000 fine!!!!!
I poured water on the coals, basically ruining a half a bag of Kingsford charcoal. The cop was so rude about it too.
He even told me that the fire department might show up to make sure I put it out. I waited but they never showed up.
I didn't tell him I was a reporter and know a lot about governmental stuff. I didn't wanna argue since he threatened me with a $1,000 fine I just wanted to avoid any confrontations and get him to leave.
I then had to start over and barbeque in the "designated area" which requires me to make long trips up and down the stairs and to the other side of my building.
I ended up eating about two hours later at 11 p.m. So that really bummed me!!!

I just don't understand because people who live in houses can do whatever the heck they want. Houses are built out of brick, wood and concrete just like my apartment.
It's just so dang unfair!!!
The cop told me some crap about how one apartment had already caught fire from an out of control grill.
I don't believe it and anyway I am careful enough. It's safer to do that than leaving my stove unattended to cook somewhere else in the designated area or leaving the grill unattended so I can check the stove.
Plus cooking in the desingated area means my food could be stolen when I'm away checking my stove in my apartment.

Yeah it just seemed to me to be two unrelated events that together seem like some grand conspiracy to ruin me.
I'm doing ok now though, can't wait to see April

aww Nick, I'm sorry I realize why ya snapped at me yesterday now... that really sucks about what happened.... I told my dad today about what happened with your rent issue and he said that if they had told you that the check wouldn't have gone through, then you shouldn't be charged anything extra. And he also said if they gave you any trouble, that he would come and offer them a piece of his mind haha. hope you had a better day today.
