My old boy is seeming his age now, multiple things have gone wrong at once and its really sad. I've had him since I was about 10.. He's such a good boy. He recently had a tumour operated on in his mouth. It wasn't cancerous but will grow back and he had cystitis twice in a week and half. Now his back legs are weak and he keeps falling over. Its so sad to see, I'm not ready to say goodbye but I don't suppose I ever will be. I just don't want him to suffer and I won't keep him going just for me. If he can lead a good life then I will continue to mount up the vet bill, but otherwise I may have to let him go. At the moment it isn't too bad, but I worry every time I let him out that his legs will go completely and he will be stuck somewhere or not move out of the way of a car fast enough. I'm trying my best to make him have the best time ever, he is getting far too many treats and lots of cuddles, I'm trying not to let him see me sad but I really can't help the occasional cry. Poor lad.

Oh wow, I'm so sorry to hear that your kitty is having to go through that. It's hitting very close to home though, the having to watch a pet as they grow old. It tore me apart to see my pup go through the last stage of her life, and I found that I couldn't stand to leave her alone at all. I know how hard it is. I know that whatever decision you end up having to make, it will be the right one. If you do have to let him go, just try and take comfort in the fact that he'll no longer be in pain. And that he lived a long and happy life with you by his side!

No matter what the age, it's always hard to let go of a friend that's become a part of your life. But if they're in constant pain sometimes there's no better alternative. Hope things go well for him and you.

Thanks guys I know its difficult, but where I work I see this quite often.. Its never easy and people do feel guilty but I have seen it where people have kept them going for their sake and it becomes quite cruel. I know that if it comes to it, I will be doing the right thing. It will be far from easy though. Then to go to work and carry on as normal will be hard too.. Not just because it would have been done there, but because there will be others going through it and I will have to be strong for them

I think people like you are a special breed - you can be caring and kind, but when it's neded you're strong enough to do what's needed. I for one could never do your job! Keep strong.
